Source Unfoldings of Convex Polyhedra via Certain Closed Curves
We extend the notion of a source unfolding of a convex polyhedron P to be based on a closed polygonal curve Q in a particular class rather than based on a point. The class requires that Q “lives on a cone” to both sides; it includes simple, closed quasigeodesics. Cutting a particular subset of the cut locus of Q (in P) leads to a non-overlapping unfolding of the polyhedron. This gives a new gen...
متن کاملOn Relations between Jacobians of Certain Modular Curves
We confirm a conjecture of Merel describing a certain relation between the jacobians of various quotients of X(p) in terms of specific correspondences.
متن کاملOn Closed Twisted Curves
Twisted curves in R' are those which have independent derivatives up to order m . For plane and spatial curves the twisted condition is equivalent to never vanishing curvature and torsion respectively. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for a (q, p)-curve on a torus to be twisted, and use those curves to construct closed twisted curves in R'" for all m .
متن کاملNatural pseudo-distances between closed curves
as the infimum of Θ(f) def = maxP∈M |φ(P )− ψ(f(P ))|, as f varies in the set of all homeomorphisms from M ontoN . The problem of finding the possible values for d naturally arises. In this paper we prove that under appropriate hypotheses the natural pseudo-distance equals either |c1−c2| or 12 |c1−c2|, where c1 and c2 are two suitable critical values of the measuring functions. This equality sh...
متن کاملOn the rank of certain parametrized elliptic curves
In this paper the family of elliptic curves over Q given by the equation Ep :Y2 = (X - p)3 + X3 + (X + p)3 where p is a prime number, is studied. Itis shown that the maximal rank of the elliptic curves is at most 3 and someconditions under which we have rank(Ep(Q)) = 0 or rank(Ep(Q)) = 1 orrank(Ep(Q))≥2 are given.
